Claire is an experienced criminal defence solicitor. Having gained a degree in Community Studies and Applied Sociology, she went on to gain her Common Professional Examination at the University of Central Lancashire. After completion of her CPE, she gained employment with what is now called the Legal Aid Agency. Upon completion of her LPC, Claire commenced a training contract with a North London criminal defence law firm.
She has been representing people in the police station since becoming an accredited police station representative in 2003 and qualified as a member of the criminal defence duty solicitor scheme in 2006.
As well as conducting criminal defence work, Claire also helped to develop a prison law department and successfully assisted many prisoners with all manner of prison issues, including Parole Board Hearings.
Upon returning to the North West Claire specialised as a solicitor preparing the defence of those falsely accused of sexual offences. She has gained extensive and invaluable experience as a solicitor preparing the defence of people accused of rape, grooming, sexual offences, indecent images of children and all other sexual offences. Defending false allegations of rape is a particular area of expertise.
In 2012 she joined ABR Solicitors. Working in Liverpool as a criminal defence solicitor with ABR has allowed Claire to further develop her career and expertise. She was appointed as a Senior Advocate in 2016 in recognition of her growing reputation as a defence solicitor specialising in all areas of criminal defence.
R v M – Liverpool Crown Court – Claire acted as defence solicitor for a young man falsely accused of raping a woman he had met on a night out. The man was acquitted after a full trial. Claire represented the man at the police station and prepared his defence for trial at the Crown Court.
R v B – Court of Appeal – Claire defended a man who was appealing the that the terms of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order on the basis that they were unreasonable. Claire prepared the grounds of appeal and a revised set of terms which ultimately the Court followed.
R v W – Liverpool Crown Court – acting as defence solicitor Claire prepared the defence of a man charged with sexually touching a female under 13 years. He was acquitted after a trial.
R v H - Liverpool Crown Court – acted as defence solicitor on behalf of a defendant charged with a conspiracy to commit fraud. Following careful preparation of the defence case he defendant was found not guilty after an argument of no case to answer was successfully made during the trial.
R v D – Liverpool Crown Court – Claire acted as a defence solicitor for a woman accused of possession with intent to supply drugs. Following the seizure of a very large amount of drugs from her home address. Whilst the woman pleaded guilty, it was successfully argued that a suspended sentence was appropriate despite the large quantities of drugs recovered.
R v B – Claire represented a client who was arrested in relation to a number of allegations of unauthorised access to computer material and threats to kill. This was a joint investigation between the FBI and British police. No charges have followed at this time.
