Rape Solicitors

The offence of rape is set out in the Sexual Offences Act 2003 and carries very serious penalties for anyone who is convicted of the offence. Allegations of this nature can arise from a wide variety of circumstances and it is inevitably an extremely distressing allegation to have made against you.

When facing a rape allegation, it is essential to work with sexual offences solicitors with specialist expertise and substantial experience. Doing so will ensure you have the strongest possible representation to avoid prosecution or conviction.

At ABR Solicitors, our team of expert sexual offences solicitors have built substantial experience in preparing cases and representing individuals accused of rape, holding a strong track record to support this.

Our team will provide practical, straightforward advice, guiding you through each stage of your case and ensuring that you are aware of exactly where you stand.

We understand how difficult it can be to face such serious allegations, as well as the major difference prompt advice and early action can make.

Our key contact in this area is James McAulay.

Our rape defence solicitors are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and can be by your side during every stage of an investigation and/or prosecution.

How our rape defence solicitors can help you

Voluntary interview

If you are suspected of an alleged rape offence, the police have the authority to ask you to voluntarily attend a police station interview. Despite this being voluntary, the potential repercussions of not having appropriate legal representation at the police station can be significant to the final outcome of the investigation.

Seeking immediate advice from a specialist sexual offences solicitor at this stage is strongly recommended. Our team are able to attend the police station and support you in respect of your voluntary interview at any police station.

We can offer appointments to meet with us prior to the interview through whichever means are most convenient to you, such as either through video platforms or face to face.

Arrested, bailed or released under investigation (RUI)

Individuals who are facing a rape allegation may be arrested and brought into custody. At this point, they will be able to appoint a solicitor of their choosing or have a solicitor appointed to them under the Duty Solicitor Scheme.

Our team provide a 24-hour emergency telephone line which can be used if you require immediate assistance if you are under arrest or are being held at the police station.

In many instances, anyone arrested for a sexual offence, such as rape, will be bailed to return to the police station or released under investigation. The police may impose bail conditions and may also seize electronic devices such as mobile phones.

We understand the difficulties this can present and, as such, offer bespoke advice and packages which are specifically tailored to the individual needs of our clients.

Summonsed (Postal Requisition) or charged to appear at court

There may be certain scenarios where someone who is accused of rape is due to make an appearance at court and has not secured legal representation. The reasons for this will vary but it is often the case that some fail to appoint a solicitor out of shame or embarrassment, not fully understanding the procedures or not wishing to appear ‘guilty’.

No matter the circumstances, the prospect of attending to court is always likely to be daunting. We understand this and, as such, can provide our clients with immediate advice, assistance and representation.

Our rape defence solicitors regularly attend criminal courts across the country and hold an outstanding reputation.

No matter whether your criminal defence is legally aided or paid privately, we can ensure that you receive the highest standard of support and an excellent level of advocacy.
